Week 9: Welcome to Gluten-free Pizza

Pizza is something that is loved by all! It is an easy thing to make for a group of people, and being gluten-free does not make you an exception by any means!! Y'all already know where to go out and get gluten-free pizza, but nothing can bet homemade pizza, and I promise anyone can make these...

How to make an easy GF Pizza night:
If you are going with the tradition crust you can make your own dough if you have the time and/or patience. The secret though to making a fantastic crust is using a blend of flours not just one... this will improve the taste extraordinary, and will hold the crust stay together better.

This is one of the best recipes that I have found... CLICK ME!!!!

I know that making dough is not for everyone so you can always go to your local store that sells GF products and pick up a pre-made pizza crust. So all you have to do is add the toppings you desire.
Pizza in 20 mins with this one
But just like making dough can be unpredictable, crumbly, and have an odd texture if not made properly made you can encounter those same issues with pre-made crusts... The best one that I have found is Udi's Gluten-Free Pizza Crust! Try this one first, if you cannot find it in your local grocery store ( I know Harris Teeter and Whole Foods both carry it regularly) you can easily order it on-line! Other brands to keep an eye out for...
  • Kinnikinnik Gluten-Free Personal Size Pizza Crust & Personal Size Thin Pizza Crust
  • The Grainless Baker Thin Pizza Shell
  • Gillian’s Gluten-Free Pizza Dough & Pizza Crust
  • Katz Gluten-Free Pizza Crust

Rice Crust Spinach Pizza
Easy to bring when others are eating pizza

If you are the type of person that would prefer to just have a frozen pizza don't worry the wonderful world of Gluten-Free living gives you that option as well... the first ones that I tried when they came out was the Amy's Kitchen Gluten-Free Frozen Rice Crust Pizzas... these are personal sized pizzas and are kind of expensive so I would only but them once in while.  Other brands that have gotten good reviews are:

  • Glutino Gluten-Free Frozen Pizzas (includes plain, pepperoni, spinach and feta, BBQ chicken and more)
  • The Grainless Baker Gluten-Free Frozen Pizza
  • Joan's GF Great Bakes Frozen Pizza (includes Sicilian and New York style pies)
  • BOLD Organics Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Pizzas (includes plain, veggie lovers, and meat lovers)
  • Ian's Natural Foods Gluten-Free French Bread Pizzas (pepperoni and cheese or vegan cheese)
  • Foods By George Gluten-Free Cheeze Pizza
  • Conte's Margherita Pizza
A frozen pizza is something that is good thing to just keep in the freezer, there is not always time in the day to make your own, and it is an easy meal. Also if you are going over to a friends house it is an easy thing to bring over and make!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recently I have been discovering all of these nontraditional pizzas that are mind blowingly good, and is making me wonder if I will ever go back to eating traditional pizza crust.

My favorite one that I have recently made is Cauliflower Pizza Crust...
(The recipe I gave is from a fantastic blog that I love checking out, if you have a second explore it)

Making it was simpler than I thought, and where the recipe called for a food processor to to cut up the cauliflower, I used a blender and it worked just as well! The crust stayed together better than I had anticipated but do not expect perfection it did crumble a little. But OMG the Cauliflower crust just blew my mind, And instead of the tradition pizza sauce we replaced it with Pesto and I think that made all the difference.

When I saw this next recipe after I had made my new favorite pizza I got a little too excited...
Cauliflower Pizza Bites, like OMG that just sounds like heaven! I'll be making that next weekend when my friends come into town, they are the farthest thing from being GF, so I will just not tell them before because they will judge before they have even tasted it! If it tastes anything like the pizza they might not be able to tell how healthy it actually is.

Healthy Portobello Pizza
One of my friends made me the Portobello Mushroom Pizza, It was a great alternative to pizza crust because it didn't make you feel gross, or overly full.
There is ZERO guilt after eating it!

Pizzadilla  This is a fun way to make a pizza with a bit of a Mexican twist, when making it gluten-free though it is important to remember to warm them up in the microwave first to keep them from cracking.

Coconut Flour Crust Pizza is something I have been meaning to try, one of my friends swears by it, and I am excited to do a comparison to the Cauliflower Pizza! She also takes the recipe for the crust and turns it into breadsticks!

Well I am a pretty sure that I will have to have a face off with the Cauliflower Pizza bites and this next recipe...

Quinoa Pizza Bites I personally think that quinoa is a grain from the gods. I probably eat it about five times a week, recently I have started making fried rice with quinoa and it is better than actual fried rice made with rice; if you want to try it I encourage you to but don't forget to pick up some gluten-free soy sauce!! So back to the pizza bites I am shocked that I haven't heard of these before! And I cannot wait because it kind of sounds like healthier
Bagel Bites and I just to love those!

This next pizza recipe will blow your mind with what color the curst is, take a guess...

PURPLE!!!!!!

Socca Crust Pizza One of the most interesting recipes I have come across.

Polenta Pizza  Polenta is such an amazing ingredient to work with and I love how this recipe is Vegan! Make sure that the polenta crust does not get too thin because it will crack!

So be adventurous with your pizza it will be worth your while!
